McCauley and Tomson - Hillsborough Township Committee Republican Candidates

Gloria McCauley, Hillsborough's Mayor, and Doug Tomson are the Republican candidates in the year's Township Committee election on November 8th.

Mayor McCauley served as Deputy Mayor in 2010 and as a Committeewoman in 2009. She has been a resident of Hillsborough since 1987 and is a Real Estate professional with REMAX in Hillsborough.

She also served on the Budget and Finance Committee from 2009 through 2010.

In 2008, Mayor McCauley was named Somerset County's Outstanding Woman of the year.

She holds an AAS Degree on Business Management.

Doug Tomson is a 30 year resident of Hillsborough and is married with three daughters. He holds a BS in Political Science and Global and Multinational Studies from Rider University.

He has served on the Hillsborough Planning Board since 2008 and has also served on the Township's Capital Planning Committee since 2008.

Doug is Director of Government Affairs for the the New Jersey Association of Realtors.

Under Republican leadership, Hillsborough has limited spending to less than 1% since 2008 and has reduced the Township's debt by $3,400,000.

They have relentlessly pushed and succeeded in getting the US Government's mercury stockpile removed from Hillsborough and getting the state to build the Route 206 bypass.

Under their leadership, Hillsborough was again named one the "100 Best Placed to Live in America," the second time in the last few years!

Both Doug and Gloria are committed to continuing acquiring Open Space and Preserved Farmland, continuing strong financial discipline and governing the Township in a business-like manner, continuing the use of green technology, and creating the recreation complex and community center at the former GSA Depot.

Hillsborough is Recognized as One of the Best Places to Live in America – Again!

Money Magazine rates Hillsborough as one of the best places in the nation to live in its September, 2011 edition, one of only five New Jersey towns to achieve that distinction. This is the second time in four years and this year, Hillsborough Township is the only town from Somerset County to make the list.

“It is fantastic for our town to have made the list twice in the past few years,” said Hillsborough Township Mayor Gloria McCauley. “It is a great honor to have this recognition,” added McCauley.

Hillsborough Township first made the list back in 2007, when then Mayor, now committeeman Anthony Ferrera touted that “our secret is out”.

Money Magazine considers various criteria to rank towns across America for their annual list. A combination of factors used in the rankings include; top-notch schools, outdoor activities, population, safety, quality of life and economic strength.

“We have a strong sense of community here in Hillsborough,” stated Mayor Gloria McCauley. “Volunteerism within the community is also very strong and adds to that close-knit community feeling,” added McCauley. “We, as the local elected officials, keep in touch with the community and know what’s going on from the resident’s perspective as a result of the many boards and commissions that so many people volunteer on,” added Mayor McCauley.

“As our residents have confirmed with the slogan ‘Hillsborough the Good Life’, Hillsborough is a great community to live in,” affirmed Mayor Gloria McCauley.
